Community Website Initiative

We know people can easily go and get a domain name and some cheap hosting space to setup a website. Our experience tells us sometimes it takes a little more knowledge and understanding to make it all work. For some the goals and passion about what they do is strong but resources are limited.

With people, as a successful social enterprise, believe it is important to put something back into the community to help others.

Our team have set up a programme, the Community Website Initiative, where groups and small organisations can come to us and we work with them to develop a website and provide the training for them to manage it.

Here’s how it works:

If you are a small community group, an individual with an idea, social enterprise, charity, startup or small business, you can apply to take part in our Community Website Initiative. If you have a turnover of less then £32,000 and you can demonstrate that you are contributing to your local community you are eligible to apply.

If your application is successful we will work with you to develop a website and get it online. There are no costs to the successful applicants for the creation of the website; we simply ask you to contribute toward the website hosting fees* and domain registration fees as your website will need to have somewhere to live.

What next:

You can apply online by completing the simple application form. Applications are considered quarterly. Successful applicants come and see us at least once, usually more, so we can talk through their ideas, develop a plan, and produce the website. Once the website is ready to launch we help with training to give successful applicants the tools to edit and work with their website.

Widowed by Suicide – www.widowedbysuicide.org.uk

Widowed by Suicide aims to reduce the isolation felt by those who have lost their life partner through suicide, providing emotional support and informal advice, by sharing individual experiences in a safe and secure environment. The Widowed by Suicide site focuses on the unique challenges of being a surviving partner.

The group receives no financial assistance and wanted to develop an online presence where they could sign post people to helpful organisations and provide a mechanism for peer support through interactive discussion.

Their application was successful and the group worked with the With People team to develop a new website, create a members’ area, email accounts, and undertake training in managing the website.
